TL;DR

The life science year has two presentation peaks: ASH (12–15 December 2026, New Orleans) and ASCO (4–8 June 2027, Chicago). ASCO is the largest by audience, with 44K+ attendees from 166 countries in 2025. ASH is the heaviest production moment, because every poster presenter must also submit a narrated 3–5 minute video by 16 November 2026. The planning gap most teams miss is that abstracts lock three to seven months before a meeting, while the deadline for slides and posters, published only by ASH, SABCS and ASCO among the events in this guide, falls 18 to 26 days before it. Pick events by category, not size: oncology and haematology congresses suit medical affairs and publications teams, JPM, BIO and BIO-Europe suit BD and investor relations, CPHI suits manufacturers and CDMOs, and ISPOR suits HEOR and market access. November 2026 has the most events in this guide, and June 2027 has the tightest cluster of major congresses.

Congress dates are fixed years ahead, but the deadline that drives your slides is not

A medical congress is where new clinical data goes public, where deals start and where brands are judged slide by slide. The event calendar is fixed years ahead, and it decides when abstracts, posters, decks and booth content must exist.

This guide groups more than 40 top life science events by category. For each one you get the dates, the city, who attends and who benefits most. Use it to decide where to present, where to exhibit and where to meet partners or investors.

How we picked these events: we started from A1 Slides' calendar research of about 60 congresses and trade shows, each checked on the organiser's own site, then kept the events with the largest audiences, the most influential data releases or the strongest deal-making role in each category.

Eleven categories cover the events that matter to life science teams

1. Oncology and haematology: the largest audiences and the most market-moving readouts

EventDatesLocationScale (organiser)Who attends
ASH Annual Meeting (68th)12–15 Dec 2026New Orleans, USA (hybrid)30,000+ projected; 5,000+ abstracts (2024)Haematologists, cell and gene therapy teams, pharma/biotech, diagnostics, CROs, investor analysts

Who benefits most: medical affairs and publications teams (posters, oral decks, encores), brand teams (booths, satellite symposia), investor relations (readout decks) and the medcomms agencies supporting all of them.

Why ASH is the production peak of the year. ASH asks every poster presenter for a poster PDF and a pre-recorded, narrated PowerPoint of 3–5 minutes. The deadline for slides, posters and recordings is 16 November 2026, 26 days before the meeting. Late uploads are marked unavailable, and the presenter must print their own poster. For a meeting with 5,000+ abstracts (2024), that is a short production window.

Why ASCO is the biggest stage. ASCO leads on attendance and countries. Its production chain runs from abstract submission, which opens on 4 November 2026 and closes on 26 January 2027, to draft slide decks from oral presenters in mid-May 2027, about three weeks before the meeting (the equivalent deadline in 2025 was 12 May, 18 days before that meeting).

Six steps keep a congress deck inside every organiser's rules

A life science deck is a compliance object as much as a design job. Abstracts lock three to seven months out (AAN 6.5 months, ASCO and ASH about 4.5, EHA about 3.3), and the deadline for slides and posters comes much later.

Abstracts lock 3–7 months before the meeting. Slides and posters lock under a month before.

Track two deadlines, not one. Only ASH, SABCS and ASCO publish a slide or poster deadline among the events in this guide, 18 to 26 days before the meeting. Everyone else leaves a three-to-four-week window that is not published. Plan to finish slides and posters at least three to four weeks before the meeting.

Build for the internal review gates. ASCO collects draft slides from oral presenters in mid-May so the discussant can prepare, then takes final slides four hours before the session. Your real deadline is the draft, not the final.

Follow each congress's format rulebook. ASCO requires PowerPoint and offers two official widescreen templates. ISPOR requires PowerPoint in 16:9 but provides no template. ESMO's oral-presenter instructions accept .pptx only, reject Keynote files, cap a 10-minute talk at 12 slides and ban sponsor branding.

Get the clinical charts right. A 2024 analysis of 641 phase III oncology trials in The Oncologist found that 116 (18%) had missing visual elements in their Kaplan-Meier plots, defined as an incomplete y-axis range or no number-at-risk table. Only 15 of 574 trials (3%) with surrogate-endpoint plots met every interpretability criterion, which included reporting the number of censored patients and matching the disease-assessment interval to the number-at-risk interval. Industry-sponsored and larger trials were less likely to have missing elements. A complete y-axis, a number-at-risk table and censoring counts are not optional. For the full method, see our clinical data visualization playbook and our guide to using charts and graphs effectively in presentations.

Only 3% of surrogate-endpoint Kaplan-Meier plots met every interpretability criterion.

Plan disclosures and embargoes from day one. ESMO treats the disclosure slide as mandatory even with nothing to declare. The GPCAP recommendations for company-sponsored conference material cover authorship, contributorship and financial transparency for abstracts, posters and slides. Late-breaking data is often built under embargo, so limit who sees drafts.

Design once, reuse as encores. The same dataset is often re-presented at a second congress (an encore), for example ASCO then EHA or ESMO. A modular master deck makes reformatting fast and consistent.

Where A1 Slides fits: the production layer behind these events

The events above are where the work is judged. A1 Slides is not one of them and is not ranked in any list on this page. We are the production layer for the teams who attend: medical affairs, publications, brand, BD and investor-relations teams, and the medcomms and consulting firms that support them.

A1 Slides designs medical affairs and MSL decks, oral presentation decks, corporate and investor decks, and ghost decks for pharma, biotech, medtech, CRO and medcomms teams. Work is formatted to the organiser's template and rules, with accurate Kaplan-Meier, forest and mechanism-of-action visuals, and briefs handed over in your evening come back finished by morning across time zones.

Planning for ASH, ASCO, JPM or BIO? Start with the 3-Slide Challenge before the visual deadline arrives.

Frequently asked questions

By attendance, ASCO is the largest medical congress in this guide, with 44K+ attendees from 166 countries in 2025. For trade fairs, MEDICA in Düsseldorf and WHX Dubai each draw around 80,000 visitors.

The 68th ASH Annual Meeting runs 12–15 December 2026 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, in person and virtually.

Pre-recorded presentations, PowerPoint slides and posters are due by 16 November 2026. Poster presenters must submit a poster PDF and a narrated 3–5 minute PowerPoint recording.

The ASCO Annual Meeting runs 4–8 June 2027 at McCormick Place, Chicago. Abstracts are due 26 January 2027, and ASCO typically collects draft slides from oral presenters in mid-May (12 May in 2025).

The J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference (11–14 January 2027, invitation only), BIO International Convention (7–10 June 2027), BIO-Europe (9–11 November 2026) and BIO-Europe Spring (5–7 April 2027) are the main partnering and investor events.

In this guide, November 2026 has the most, with nine events starting that month, followed by April 2027 with eight. June 2027 has the tightest cluster of major congresses: ASCO, BIO, EULAR, EHA, ADA, EPHMRA and DIA fall within four weeks.

CPHI & PMEC India runs 23–26 November 2026 in Delhi and Greater Noida, and BioAsia runs 15–17 February 2027 in Hyderabad.

Start as soon as your abstract is accepted. Aim to finish visuals at least three to four weeks before the meeting, because ASH, SABCS and ASCO set their visual deadlines 18 to 26 days before the event.

Start with ASH, ASCO, ESMO and EHA for data presentation, and ISMPP (European Meeting 25–27 January 2027, Annual Meeting 3–5 May 2027) and MAPS (Americas 14–17 March 2027, EMEA 9–11 May 2027) for the medical affairs and publications community.

Among the events in this guide, ASH requires every poster presenter to submit a narrated PowerPoint recording of 3–5 minutes, due 16 November 2026 alongside the poster PDF.

A 2024 analysis in The Oncologist of 641 phase III oncology trials found 18% had missing visual elements, meaning an incomplete y-axis or no number-at-risk table. Only 3% of trials with surrogate-endpoint plots (15 of 574) met every interpretability criterion.

Sources and method

Event dates, venues and scale figures come from A1 Slides' calendar research, with each date opened on the organiser's own site and re-checked by a second reviewer in October 2026. ESMO 2026 dates come from the venue operator, IFEMA. Three medtech events (MEDICA, RSNA, WHX Dubai) were added and checked on 15 October 2026. CROI 2027 dates are labelled preliminary by the organiser. BIO-Europe gives two attendance figures (5,800+ and 8,000+) and the lower one is used here. Always confirm on the official site before booking.
